What are dentures?

Commonly referred to as false teeth, dentures are prosthetic teeth that are designed to replace a person’s missing or damaged teeth. Dentures are made-to-order with individual size measurements to fit perfectly into the mouth cavity of a patient.

The dental appliance is commonly used to restore the functions and appearance of healthy teeth. Besides regaining the wearer’s ability to speak clearly and perform normal biting and chewing functions, dentures support the facial muscles around the lips and cheeks. By propping up otherwise sagging facial features, dentures help to restore a more youthful appearance to its wearer.

Today’s advanced dental technology and materials create better fitting, longer-lasting and more comfortable dentures than you can ever imagine. The most obvious improvement, however, has to be the aesthetic quality. Modern dentures look so realistic and natural, many people would be hard pressed to differentiate the artificial teeth from the real thing!

Quality + Choice + Information = The Right Denture Solution

At Monterey Keys Dental Surgery, we don’t simply supply artificial teeth. All our denture products are sourced from the most reliable manufacturers and dental prosthetists. We ensure that the highest safety and quality control standards, as applied to medical and dental products, are met at all times.

As a teeth replacement device that you wear inside the mouth cavity – prone to extensive rugged use and exposed to foods and beverages that you consume on a daily basis – you can’t be too careful when deciding the right one for you.

We offer a choice of full, partial or implant-retained dentures. Depending on your needs and preference, you may also decide between a fixed- or removable-type appliance.

Our experienced team of Gold Coast dentists will be able to advise you on the teeth replacement options that are currently available, and assist you in finding the best denture solution to meet your specific needs and budget. We also provide denture repair services to fix any problems you may encounter with the appliance.

Full Dentures

A full denture is used to replace an entire row of teeth, either in the upper or lower arch – or both arches. A full denture usually comprises of an acrylic base that is attached to a row of artificial teeth made from either acrylic or composite material.

Custom-designed for you, a complete denture not only restores your dentition to improve the appearance of your smile, it returns the normal functions of your original teeth like speaking, chewing and smiling. A full (or complete) denture may be your best option if you are missing several or all of your teeth.

Monterey Keys Dental Surgery offers both the removable as well as fixed, implant-retained type of complete dentures.

Partial Dentures

If you only need to replace one or a few natural teeth, then a removable partial denture may be a better option. Partials not only restore the natural appearance of healthy teeth, they prevent your teeth from shifting into the space voided by the missing tooth or teeth. Partial dentures do not harm your existing natural teeth but in fact help to maintain their position by providing additional support.

For additional strength and stability, you may opt for cast metal partial dentures that provide a more firm and permanent type of denture, as opposed to pure acrylic versions. Acrylic partials usually serve as a useful transitional or temporary teeth replacement option.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Dental implants are tiny titanium posts that are strategically inserted in the jawbone to act as artificial roots for the replacement of missing teeth. Compared to standard dentures that are retained on the gum through suction, an implant-supported denture is far more stable as it is locked to attachments on the implants. This type of denture is mostly recommended for the lower jaw, as standard full dentures have a natural tendency to be unstable in that position.

Unlike detachable dentures, implant-retained dentures are permanently fixed. You won’t have to avoid certain types of foods that may loosen a removable denture and cause it to fall off. In fact, many implant-retained denture wearers have been praising how the appliance feels and looks like natural teeth. Implant-retained prosthetics also look more natural due to the more advanced and less synthetic material used to fabricate the artificial teeth.

NOTE: We also provide denture repair services to fix any problems you may encounter with the appliance.
